And from then on, there’s been no stopping her. In 2013, Hoover was able to quit her job as a social worker and dedicate herself to writing full-time. Within a matter of months, her first two novels, Slammed and Point of Retreat, was at number 8 and 18 on the New York Times Best Seller list, and suddenly, publishers were desperate to sign this previously unknown author. From then on, Hoover’s work began to get noticed by a much wider audience. Popular book blogger Maryse Black loved the story and gave it a glowing, five-star review. Success didn’t come overnight, but after a few months, the novel began attracting attention. She had no intention of publishing her work, but her mother had just bought a Kindle e-reader, so Hoover self-published it on Amazon so that she could read it. But in 2011, she decided to follow a dream she never imagined she’d fulfill and penned her debut novel, Slammed. Before becoming the internationally bestselling writer she is today, she was a social worker and a teacher.
