I was looking after our own children so I wrote to them and said: 'If you'd like a holiday in the country, you can come and stay with us. ![]() "My husband then, David Compton, was a writer of science fiction and stuff like that – and we lived in a thatched house in Devon, in Fairy Cross near Bideford. "I first wrote to Ted and Sylvia when they'd done a piece on Radio 3 called 'Two Of A Kind' … They were speaking about how they were both writers and they had this baby daughter and how they had to take turns at writing and babysitting. ![]()
